This summer I awoke one night to the living room filled with a powerful and delightful fragrance. I figured that it must have been wafting in from the garden outside and went out with a flashlight to see what was in bloom. Alas, however, nothing was blooming that had a fragrance like that (reminiscent of carnation and lily). Using my nose, I traced the fragrance to a potted sanseveria that I have had for years. It spends the year in a south facing bay window. In all the years I have seen these plants (otherwise known as snake plant or mother-in-law tongue) I have never seen (or smelled) one in bloom. Wow.
